NETWORK OF EXECUTIVE WOMEN October 2009 Sam’s Club CEO will kick off NEW SummitThe October 12 opening reception of the Network of Executive Women’s 2009 Leadership Summit will feature remarks by one of the consumer products and retail industry’s most influential executives. Brian Cornell, the recently appointed president and chief executive officer of Sam’s Club, will speak at the NEW Summit’s opening reception and buffet, which begins at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12 at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas. More than 500 consumer products and retail executives are expected at the meeting, which will include three keynote speeches, six workshops and optional programs like Retail Safari® store tours and a one-day Deep Dive Career Self-Management Workshop. More Multicultural women growing opportunityMulticultural women will have an increasingly powerful impact on the retail and consumer products industry according to a recent study reported by Progressive Grocer. “Propelled by the prominence of First Lady Michelle Obama and newly minted Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, 2009 has become the year of multicultural women, and this will drive the multicultural women’s century,” according to a report by research firm Packaged Facts, which says that multicultural women will comprise the majority of the U.S. female population in just over 30 years. More NEW, Noddle and Walgreens in spotlight at GMAThe Network of Executive Women was front and center at this year’s GMA Executive Conference, hosting a sold-out morning session on the new customer strategy of Walgreens and awarding the 2009 NEW Outstanding Champion award to Jeff Noddle, executive chairman of SuperValu. More than 600 consumer products and retail industry executives attended the conference, including CEOs and senior executives from manufacturing companies and retailers from the grocery and drug channels.
