150 executives launch Arkansas chapter with style Second event to be held October 7 at Walton College More than 150 executives from over thirty companies attended the
inaugural networking event of the new Northwest Arkansas chapter of the
Network of Executive Women, July 15 in Springdale, Ark.
The Northwest Arkansas Chapter was formed last June to meet the
fast-growing region’s demand for networking and education. The chapter
and its inaugural event was spearheaded by executives from such
companies as Accenture, Frito-Lay, J.B. Hunt, Johnson & Johnson,
Procter & Gamble, Tyson, and Wal-Mart.
Chandra Cox, Director of Women Markets for Wal-Mart, was emcee of the
evening, which featured remarks on mentoring by Dr. Stacey Blake-Beard,
associate professor of management at the Simmons School of Management.
The reception and learning also included special comments from a trio
of high-powered industry CIOs: Linda Dillman of Wal-Mart, Jeri Dunn of
Tyson and Kay Palmer of J.B. Hunt. The three executives were
instrumental in founding the chapter several months ago, along with
Michael Gorshe, Executive Director, Consumer Goods and Services, for
Accenture.
Bobbie O’Hare, vice president of business development for Johnson O’Hare Companies, termed the evening “terrific.” The NEW
regional events chair said, “Our regional networking events are about
support, not competition, and that creates incredible energy—you have
to be there to appreciate it.”
It was held at the offices of Saatchi & Saatchi X, and included
executives from Wal-Mart, Accenture, Tyson Foods, J.B. Hunt, Johnson
& Johnson, Frito-Lay, Procter & Gamble and nearly thirty other
companies.
Three more events
The Network is sponsoring three additional regional events October: The
New England Fall Networking Event will be held at the Boston Marriott
Quincy in Quincy, Mass., October 8; the Portland Networking Event will
be held at the Embassy Suites in Tigard, Ore., October 25.
The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of NEW will hold its second networking
event, a luncheon featuring former secretary of labor Lynn Martin as
keynote speaker. The luncheon, sponsored by Deloitte, will be held on
Thursday, October 7, in conjunction with the University of Arkansas’s
Sam M. Walton College of Business in Fayetteville, Ark. The event will
focus on “Emerging Trends in Retailing.” For more information contact
Claudia Mobley of the University of Arkansas at cmobley@walton.uark.edu.
The Arkansas event was the third NEW regional event in the past three
months: More than 180 NEW members and supporters gathered outside
Boston April 27 and more than two hundred executives met outside New
York June 8.
