Partnering at work and home key, Lisa Gersh tells NEW

Oxygen co-founder address more than 200 at N.Y. Metro event

NEW YORK -- Lisa Gersh, President, Chief Operating Officer and Co-founder of The Oxygen Network, told a packed crowd at NEW’s New York Metro networking event that "work/life balance does not exist," and offered suggestions on how to cope with imbalances that arise. The event was held January 24 at the Meadowlands Hilton in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.

Candace Corlett, principal of WSL Strategic Retail, introduced Ms. Gersh, who told the crowd how important it is to take the lead when running a business. "Many women are afraid to speak up and introduce their ideas," the entrepreneur said.

Ms. Gersh offered several tips for women executives: Never be afraid to ask questions; learn to brag about your accomplishments; share your business with your children so they will understand when you have to travel or work late; make decisions with your partner; and recognize the imbalances in work/life balance.

Lena West of SmallBizTechnology.com said Ms. Gersh “broke up her presentation by showing the commercials that Oxygen used to solidify their relationships with their partners.

Ms. Gersh co-founded the Oxygen Network in 1998 with media executive Gerry Laybourne. Prior to joining the media partnership, Ms. Gersh had more than 15 years of experience in creating strong corporate partnerships, served as founding partner of the New York law firm Friedman Kaplan & Seiler LLP from 1986 to 1998.
