P&G's Helayne Angelus takes NEW reins

Wal-Mart and Safeway executives join board

CHICAGO (September 21, 2006) -- The Network of Executive Women has a new president. Helayne Angelus, vice president, global customer business development diversity, for Procter & Gamble, took the helm of the CPG/retail industry's largest diversity organization at NEW's Annual Leadership Summit, Sept. 11-12 in Dallas.

Angelus replaces Kimberly Betts, a manager in human capital for Deloitte & Touche. Betts will remain a Network officer as immediate past president. Angelus praised Bett's service as president and presented her with an award of appreciation in front of a packed ballroom at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Dallas.

NEW also welcomed seven new at-large board members this month: Anne Fink, vice president, PepsiCo Sales for PepsiCo; Michelle Gloeckler, vice president and general manager, The Hershey Experience, The Hershey Company; Julie Hamilton, vice president, International Business Development, the Coca-Cola Company; DeDe Priest, senior vice president, GMM Food Division, Wal-Mart Stores; Regenia Stein, vice president, Central Area for Kraft Foods; Mary van Praag, vice president of sales, Neutrogena Corporation (a Johnson & Johnson Company); and James White, senior vice president, Consumer Brands, Safeway, Inc.

Angelus has a long and distinguished industry career and has been with the Network since its inception. She has served on NEW's board for five years, headed the group's programming and education committee, and most recently served as NEW vice president. Angelus became involved with NEW when P&G became one of the group's founding sponsors.

"I believe passionately in the mission of NEW and have confidence that our sponsors and members will derive bottom line business benefits with greater representation of women and minorities at all levels," she said. "I have experienced how P&G has changed from the primarily male organization I joined 30 years ago to one that has representation of women and minorities at all levels. This has been a key enabler for winning in the marketplace."

Her latest assignment is heading P&G's Global Diversity efforts in Customer Business Development. "I believe great teams and individuals rise to the occasion when faced with adversity," she said.  "I lead a worldwide team to achieve our global CBD diversity objectives, and I enjoy investing in and coaching others."

NEW growth plans

Angelus said the Network plans to expand regionally, "engaging members and sponsors with mentoring and other programming. And we are committed to increasing the number of multicultural women in this industry via our Women of Color initiative." Angelus added that NEW plans "to develop key metrics that will measure the diversity ROI of our sponsoring companies."

The newly installed leader said the best part of working with NEW is the "wonderful people I have met, both men and women. I really enjoy seeing the organization and the individuals grow as a result of participating in NEW programs and events. I have witnessed the transformation of both individuals and key sponsors who have gained new insights and learnings on how to attract, retain and develop a diverse organization."
